• It’s about time Scorsese gets an Oscar. Even though I think Alejandro González Iñárritu did a better job directing Babel this year, Scorsese really deserved it after not getting one for Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and The Aviator. 2/26/07 (0)

  • New iPod, iPod nanos, iPod shuffle and iTunes movie store

    September 12th, 2006 at 3:55PM EDT or 1 year, 11 months ago (mid-afternoon)

At its September 12 media event today, Apple updated its line of iPods, introduced iTunes 7, and delivered the first movie sales through the iTunes Store. The 60GB 5G iPod has been upgraded to 80GB, while prices have come down $50 for each model to $249 and $349. The 5G iPod also features a brighter display, the ability to control the level of brightness, improved battery life, new earphones, gapless playback, and the ability to play games. The 2G iPod nano remains available at the same three price points, ($149, $199, and $249) but capacities have been doubled across the board, to 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB. In addition, the new nano features an aluminum enclosure similar to the iPod mini, except much smaller and thinner. The iPod shuffle is now available in only 1GB priced at $79, but is available in a smaller, aluminum button-sized enclosure.

    New iPods

iTunes 7 includes a number of enhancements, including support for iTunes Music Store account holders to automatically add album artwork to any MP3s that are missing it. Along with that, new views allow you to browse your music collection by artwork, as if flipping through a physical CD collection. Apple also added movie sales to the iTunes Store, with 75 titles available today from various Disney studios. Movie sales are available at a resolution of 640×480, encoded with the H.264 video codec, and television shows have been increased as well to the same resolution, a four-fold increase from the previous 320×240 size.

You can check out the new iPods at the Apple Store.

  • Sony just posted the full length trailer of the upcoming Casino Royale movie. Hopefully the new Bond will better. Warning: It’s a fairly large .mov file. 9/10/06 (0)
  • Amazon’s movie download site, called Unbox, has gone live today. DVD-quality TV shows and movies can be purchased or rented, but require Windows-only software to play them. They can only played on a computer and prices are comparable to DVDs. You also get one free TV show download to begin with. 9/8/06 (0)

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer

June 8th, 2006 at 9:03PM EDT or 2 years, 2 months ago (around evening time)

Has anybody seen this? New Line Cinemas put a time restriction on a movie trailer… You can only watch it from 10PM to 4AM (which time zone by the way?!?). I don’t quite understand what they’re doing. If it’s a way to gain publicity, it’s an oxymoron.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer time restriction

On the subject of movie trailers, check out the new Disney’s Cars HD movie trailer. Make sure you watch the 1080p HD version. You’ll need a fairly powerful computer to watch it (1920×1080 resolution video at 24 frames per second), but it’s absolutely amazing video. Pixar did an unbelievable job on the computer graphics.
